Earths current Kami was born to the name Zain Ashiko in a village deep within the Diablo Desert, young Zain was taught in his youth that only the strong and smart deserved to survive in such a place as the Diablo Desert and was thus taught the ways of a Bandit, he learned of thievery, deceit, and scamming. Young Zain could not properly understand that such actions were wrong, that his actions were truly harming those whom he stole from and whom he watched his fellow villagers and parents steal and hustle were entirely likely to not survive the remainder of there trip through the Diablo Desert with the mjaority of there belonging now pilfered often including any food and water they might have had. He simply accepted this as normal behavior and much like the other children of the Diablo Bandits young Zain found great praise when he would sneak back to the others with what he had taken.
One day however when out scouting for 'targets' with a few other members of the Diablo Bandits a teenage Zain spotted a group traversing the desert, they looked quite weary from there journey and were bickering with one another quite loudly. To young Zain this proved them to be easy targets, the other Bandits agreed and sent Zain alone to acquire what he could as he was the smallest of there group and thus the least likely to be noticed. Zain stealthily maneuvered behind the group and as he began snatching what he could from the small cart that was being pulled by two of the men one of the group spotted him. The group immediately descended upon Zain snatching him away from the cart and began quite angrily asking what he was up to, what he thought he was doing. Zain tried his best to explain, in his fear revealing his nature as a Bandit. The remaining Bandits rushed in at this point and much to Zains horror murdered the men before they could even properly realize what had happened.
Zain in his horror sought to find out from his companions WHY they had done such a thing, many of them simply responded that they had known to much and that it was irrelevant anyway as they would have jsut died wandering the desert had Zain succeeded anyway. Zain was horrified to learn that he had been about to condemn people to such a horrible death, he was even more horrified when he realized just how many people he had already sent to such a fate. From that day Zain sought to change the ways of his brethren trying and failing time and again to set things right. However his efforts only served to cause a rift between himself and the Diablo Bandits. And eventually this rift came to such a point that when Zain once again thwarted an attempt to take a group of people for all they had the Bandits cast Zain out of the village dooming him to walk the Diablo Desert alone.
Zain accepted his fate without so much as a single ill word to his brethren simply asking one last time that they rethink there ways. Zain worried that all the harm that his people had done would one day backlash on them, that one day it would be them who would lose everything and while Zain abhorred his peoples ways he could not in good conscience wish such a fate upon them. Now alone and with minimal resources Zain wandered the Diablo, in his travels he met many travelers and warned them all of the danger his people might pose to them. The people in turn gave Zain what little they could to help him along in his journey but eventually the kindness of strangers was not enough to outpace Zains own generosity as when he would happen upon someone with nothing he would often provide them with what little he could. Zain found himself without food, without water, and with clothing so damaged that it was providing less and less protection by the day.
The days burned his skin and the nights chilled his bones but Zain pressed on not knowing where he was going but knowing that even if he passed on to the next world that he would help as many people as he could. Eventually after two weeks without food and nearly three days since he had last managed to acquire drinkable water Zain found the most amazing fountain simply sitting out in the open in the Desert. Zain at first believed it to be a mere hallucination brought on by his desperation and the heat but upon drinking from it Zain found it to be quite real. He quenched his thirst and took a few moments to rest at the fountains side.
Zain knew he could very well simply stay by the fountain, there would likely be game of some sort around such a water source so food would be easy enough but something within him called out again this, there were still people out in the desert that would have nobody looking out for them and plenty looking to take advantage of them. This was not where he belonged. He needed to continue on. And just as Zain began to walk away from the fountain he found himself face to face with a new figure, an older man with a very kind expression. The man asked Zain who he was and how he had come to find himself at this fountain. Zain in turn explained who he was and how he had been traversing the Diablo for nearly two months by his count at this point. The man seemed rather amazed by Zains story and asked Zain to tell him more about himself, his life before walking the desert. With a heavy heart Zain told the man of his time with the Bandits.
As Zains story came to a close the man nodded and gave Zain a smile. He explained to Zain that he was the Guardian of Earth, the man who sought to protect the whole of the planet just as Zain protected those journeying through the Diablo. He told Zain that he knew that his words were true and that because of Zains actions after learning the true nature of the Bandits that he wished to take Zain on as an apprentice, that he wished for Zain to take over one day as Guardian when he eventually passed on as he had even despite his long 'reign' as Guardian had not yet found a suitable replacement even as his time drew closer and closer to it's end. Zain asked why the man would believe him, he was an admitted thief and accomplice to murder, why could he be trusted. The Guardian simply smiled and responded that the Fountain of Youth would only appear to those of truly good nature.
Zain would then join the former Kami on the Lookout, he spend many years getting to know the older Guardian and learning all he would need to learn from him. Zain's remembers his time with the former Kami as 'cruelly short' now due to his extended age despite receiving a full ten years of training under the older Kami. To this day Zain, now Kami-Sama still works every day to live up to his mentors standard. The disturbing message spread across the Earth of the arrival of the Red Pants army has left the Kami quite worried for his peoples future due to the ominous chill he received preceded the message.
